A federal grand jury in Baltimore has charged the former CEO of Poole & Kent, the Baltimore-based mechanical contracting unit of Emcor Group Inc., with fraud in connection with an alleged wide-ranging scheme involving a Maryland state senator and his wife. According to the charges, W. David Stoffregen from 1999 to 2003 provided illegal services and employment to Thomas Bromwell and his wife in exchange for Bromwell’s agreement to use his influence and position to help Poole & Kent. Stoffregen could not be reached for comment. Poole & Kent says it forced Stoffregen out of his job in March and that it is cooperating in the probe.
