Article Description| The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will provide $12 million to New York City to develop and evaluate a drinking-water contamination warning system for its water supply. The pilot project, announced on April 24, is part of EPA’s Water Security Initiative being launched in several cities to address the risk of intentional contamination. Under the initiative, cities work with EPA to improve upon and add multiple monitoring and surveillance components to their drinking-water distribution systems to screen for possible contaminants. The first pilot project was launched in June 2006 in Cincinnati. |
