Article Description| The U.S. Government Accountability Office on April 25 upheld the U.S. Energy Dept.’s award to a Fluor Corp.-led team of what may become one of its largest-ever contracts. GAO rejected a bid protest by the Washington division of URS Corp., formerly Boise-based Washington Group International, for the contract to manage DOE’s Savannah River nuclear waste site in Aiken, S.C. The contract is worth $4 billion over the next five years and up to twice that in a decade. Washington was the only other bidder and the contract incumbent since 1989. GAO did not disclose details of its decision because of competitively sensitive information, says Sharon Larkin, a senior GAO attorney.
