Article Description| Crews in Oregon and Washington are diving into cleanup and repairs following a storm that slammed into the Northwest Dec. 2, leaving 13 dead in storm-related incidents. At the height of the event, 20 miles of Interstate 5 near Chehalis, Wash., were closed, as were 10 state highways. It took five days to fully reopen I-5. Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire (D) says damages in her state alone will be in the billions of dollars. State Route 47 in Oregon, as well as SR 6 and Highway 101 in Washington, were still closed Dec. 11 as engineers assess damage from mudslides. “We don’t have cost estimates and don’t know how long it will take to repair the damage,” says Shelly Snow, spokeswoman with the Oregon Dept. of Transportation. ... |
