Description: “Clearly this is a chemical that should not be in drinking water,” says Rebecca Greenwald, who heads the environmental group for New York City-based Weitz and Luxenberg, one of the two law firms that argued the case for the water providers. “This settlement provides an opportunity for our clients to remove the MTBE from the drinking water they’re serving to their customers.” Greenwald says a matrix will be set up to determine how much each provider receives for cleanup based on such factors as the number of wells contaminated and the level of MTBE detected.
