Description:A national survey of state and county chief information officers and IT department directors is projecting that 38% of local government information-technology budgets will decrease over the next two years as a result of the economic slowdown. But many of the 163 respondents say they will maintain support for high-priority items, including public safety interoperability (54%) and e-government services (46%), which would include continued expansion of interactive and collaborative tools to engage the public. The survey was conducted by the Public Technology Institute and INPUT, a clearinghouse of public sector business opportunities. Details may be found at www.input.com
