Description: Nine states have joined a lawsuit against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, arguing that its recent ruling allowing water transfers from bodies of water would accelerate contamination of both drinking water and navigable waters. The suit, led by New York, focuses on a June 9 EPA ruling that excludes water transfers from regulation under the Clean Water Act’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permitting program. “Clean-water permits should focus on water pollution, not water movement,” says EPA Assistant Administrator for Water Benjamin Grumbles.
