Utility Applies for License For Two New Texas Nuke Plants - ENR | McGraw-Hill Construction

Description: Dallas-based Luminant has applied for a combined construction and operating license for the first U.S. advanced pressurized water reactors supplied by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., Tokyo. Luminant filed the application with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Sept. 19 shortly after entering an agreement to form a joint venture with MHI. The two 1,700-MW units are being proposed to expand Luminant’s 2,208-MW Comanche Peak nuclear station. The U.S. APWR is a variant of Mitsubishi’s 1,538-MW reactor for the U.S. nuclear market, according to an MHI spokesman.
