Description: The new $234-million Interstate 35W bridge in Minneapolis was set to open on Sept. 18, well ahead of the Dec. 24 deadline and just 13 months after the deadly collapse of the old steel-truss bridge that killed 13 people. The design-build team led by Longmont, Colo.-based Flatiron Constructors Inc. and Seattle-based Manson Construction Co. stands to earn a full $27-million bonus for completing the bridge three months early. MnDOT officials and Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) also announced on Sept. 15 that fund-raising would begin for a $1-million victims’ memorial, which will stand in nearby Gold Medal Park.
