CERN Collider Switched On

In a $10-billion physics experiment, scientists at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) are set to switch on their new Large Hadron Collider on Sept. 10. It is 100 meters below the Franco-Swiss border and will accelerate atomic particles along a 27-kilometer-long, 3.5-m-dia tunnel. Teams of European contractors performed $200 million of work over nine years on the tunnel.

PLANNING:
CALIFORNIA Rainbow Municipal Water District is seeking design services for demolition of the existing 8-million-gallon concrete-lined earthen Pala Mesa Reservoir and also the design for a tank site to take its place.
