Description: A test dig has started in preparation for the “Super Dig” that will create a canal encompassing much of the urban area of Dubai. Limitless LLC, Dubai, will manage the design and construction of the $11-billion “Arabian Canal.” After tests are completed, work is expected to start this December on the 75-kilometer-long canal. It will be up to 150-m wide, 20 m to 60 m deep and will involve digging and moving more than one billion cu m of earth. Construction of the canal is estimated to take three years to complete. In addition, Limitless has hired SWA Group, Houston, and Calthorpe Associates, Berkeley, Calif., to design and plan a $50-billion mixed-use development around the canal.
