Description: Some Alaskans fear a major impact on state capital projects following a federal grand jury’s July 29 indictment of Sen. Ted Stevens (R), former chair of the Appropriations Committee and the Senate’s longest-serving Republican, on seven counts of making false financial disclosures. According to the charging document, Stevens, 84, engaged in a nearly eight-year scheme to conceal receipt of at least $250,000 worth of goods and services from oil field services company VECO Corp. Several former executives of the firm, acquired by CH2M Hill Cos. in 2007, were indicted separately.
