Hydroelectric retrofits for three navigation dams on the Ohio River have been launched following last month’s execution of a contract for turbines and generators for 208 MW of generation capacity. Voith Siemens Hydro, York, Pa., will deliver the equipment within a year to projects for American Municipal Power-Ohio, Columbus, says Frank Daley, Voith Siemens executive vice president. AMP-Ohio is about to award a contract to a civil contractor for the work at Willow Island Locks and Dam, near Waverly, W.Va., Cannelton Locks and Dam, near Cannelton, Ind., and Smithland Locks and Dam in Livingston County, Ky.
