Description: A coalition of Florida crane owners has filed suit asking the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida to enjoin Miami-Dade County from enforcing its new crane-safety ordinance. The Associated Builders and Contractors, Associated General Contractors, Construction Association of South Florida and Florida Crane Owners’ Council argue the county failed to obtain permission from the U.S. Secretary of Labor. Owners also say the law requires them to make more risky crane jumps and tie-ins to buildings to meet the law’s strict, 146-mph wind-load standard. Miami-Dade officials say they will defend the law.
