The United Nations broke ground on a 2.6-million-sq-ft headquarters on May 5 in New York City and is on a fast track to open it two years ahead of schedule. The accelerated plan would shrink construction from seven to five years to minimize disruptions. Part of a $1.87-billion master plan, the updated campus may reduce 40% of energy and 30% of water use.
