Description: French architect Jean Nouvel won the 32nd annual Pritzker Prize, awarded by the Hyatt Foundation of Chicago to a living architect for outstanding contributions to the profession. Many of Nouvel’s more than 200 works are concentrated in France, but he gained notice in the U.S. in 2006 with the Guthrie Theater, along the Mississippi riverfront in Minneapolis. One of his most recent designs is for a 75-story condominium tower in midtown Manhattan, which is nearing the starting stage (see image). “Nouvel hopes his structures will disappear through a trick of the light, and he likewise creates buildings that evade easy characterization,” says ENR’s sister publication Architectural Record.
