Governors of 19 western states adopted a resolution on June 17 opposing plans by the Obama administration and private energy companies to build interim spent-nuclear-fuel storage facilities in their states without written consent. The action, taken at a meeting of the Western Governors’ Association in Park City, Utah, follows the administration’s plan to suspend work on the Yucca Mountain storage repository in Nevada. The governors say the waste should still be stored on-site at nuclear powerplants.
